Reminder: Contraband Notification Process
BNSF collaborates with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and railroads in Mexico and Canada to reduce the illegal transport of drugs and contraband, helping to ensure the safety of our customers, employees and the communities we serve. To continue safe operations, we also need our customers’ help in identifying illegal activity.
As a reminder, if you discover drugs or other contraband in a railcar, please contact your local law enforcement agency immediately so they can take custody of the contraband. In addition, please contact BNSF’s Resource Operations Call Center (ROCC) at 800-832-5452.
If you see evidence of smuggling activity, you should also notify your local law enforcement agency as well as BNSF. Examples of smuggling activity can include any unusual railcar modifications, such as holes cut in a centerbeam or false walls or floors.
For your safety, if you witness smuggling activity in progress, including individuals on or near a railcar removing drugs or other contraband, please do not intervene. Instead, contact law enforcement and BNSF immediately.
When contacting law enforcement and BNSF, please provide the following information:
· The location where the discovery occurred
· The railcar identification number
· The date of discovery of contraband/evidence of smuggling activity
· The date the railcar was received at destination
· A summary of what occurred
· Photographs depicting the method of smuggling and the external packaging on the contraband
Your business is important to us. Thank you for your cooperation in making our transport of your goods even safer. |
