07/28/2006 Submitting Shipping Instructions for Hazardous Material Shipments Over the past several years, BNSF has introduced a number of electronic tools to aid in the automation of the billing process. These tools—located at www.bnsf.com--streamline the billing process and are designed to make doing business with BNSF easier. In fact, so many BNSF customers have recognized the value of the methods listed below, today over 99 percent of the shipping instructions submitted to BNSF are sent by one of these electronic methods. · System to System Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) · Rail Industry Shipping Instruction Tool on the Internet (Steelroads www.steelroads.com ) · Third Party Provider BNSF Shipping Instructions Web Tool The BNSF Shipping Instructions Web Tool is available to registered users of BNSF.com. Shipping instructions can be submitted 24 hours a day, seven days a week using this tool. This tool is also available to send HazMat shipping information.* [*The only exception to this policy would be commodities declared as Hazardous Waste. Shipping Instructions for Hazardous Waste will continue to be handled as required in 40 CFR (U.S. mail or Overnight carrier) as there are currently no EDI standards to support billing of hazardous waste and electronic signatures.] This tool has HazMat look-up functionality. You can enter either the identification number (UN/NA) or commodity code (STCC). The new look-up function will make your HazMat billing input much easier and more accurate. Error-free billing is the goal and a requirement of DOT regulations.
