CIS Tool Provides Current Updates on Cargo Incidents

On January 19, 2015, the BNSF Load and Ride Solutions team (LARS) launched a new tool called Cargo Information System (CIS). The first of its kind in the railroad industry, this tool is designed to facilitate customer access to information regarding derailments, load shifts or hazmat incidents that directly impact their cargo.

CIS is user friendly and customizable. Once you have created your profile, you will be able to:

  • Track the status of an incident involving your cargo.
  • Access the latest CIS reports regarding your shipments, including any available photos.
  • Determine who in your company receives CIS communications with the option to specify which CIS incidents impacting your cargo they will receive notifications for.
  • View past incidents that impacted your cargo, and were documented in CIS, and export that data to Excel.
  • View, print and save copies of CIS reports related to your cargo in PDF format.

All BNSF intermodal shippers of record (those that do business directly with BNSF) and all closed carload customers (boxcar and hopper car) will have access to CIS reports specific to their cargo upon creating their profile. Please note that your profile will remain inactive until approved by BNSF.

Open-top carload customers will have access to CIS in the future.
