New Seal Inspection Notification Tool Now Available

Trailers and containers shipped by BNSF Railway are required to have a primary seal when the unit arrives at a BNSF Intermodal facility. If BNSF finds a compromised seal on units inside BNSF Intermodal facilities or while in transit, BNSF will replace the primary seal and inspect the unit to ensure the security of customer shipments. As part of this process, BNSF logs details and photos of the issue and notifies the customer.

Beginning today, BNSF is improving the communication of compromised seals and customer visibility online with the launch of the SEAL (Shipment e-Assurance Link) application and email notification option on bnsf.com.

With this tool, customers can subscribe to be notified by email of units with compromised seals at all BNSF Intermodal Facility locations. These Shipment Integrity Reports are sent in real-time when the issue is logged, and contain details, such as date, location, unit number, waybill information, condition, new seal number (if applicable) and photos. Customers can also view all logged issues and Shipment Integrity Reports inside the SEAL application, and can search reports by date range, location and unit number. See an overview of the application and notification.

To access the SEAL application, log in to bnsf.com, go to the Welcome Menu dropdown, choose “Request Access” and follow the prompts to request the SEAL application. You will be notified when access is granted. You can then find the tool under Applications, then Manage.

If you currently receive Shipment Integrity Reports by email, you will continue to receive them. If you do not currently receive, you will need to subscribe by clicking the “Receive e-mail notifications” box in the upper-right corner of the SEAL application.

If you do not have access to the secure bnsf.com, you can register at any time by clicking on the “Register” link in the Customer Login box on the BNSF home page. For questions about the new feature, contact BNSF eBusiness Help at 888-428-2673, option 4, 1 or email eBizHelp@bnsf.com.
