AAR General Rules Change – Solicitation for Comments
BNSF has been advised that the Association of American Railroads (AAR) is reviewing Section 2 of the AAR Open Top Loading Rules Manual for possible revisions planned for October 23, 2010.
The AAR indicates that the current pipe in gondola loading rules result in pipe movement, and in some cases, the top portion of pipe has moved past the end of the gondola car during transit, causing traffic interruptions and load adjustments. The Technical Advisory Group (TAG) on Pipe in Gondola Cars is soliciting comments from the industry to determine any effects of establishing a three-foot clearance between the end of the pipe and the end of the car for all loading figures where the pipe is allowed to be loaded above the sides and ends of the car.
The TAG is soliciting comments to John_Blackman@aar.com. All comments received by Sunday, November 22, 2009, will be considered by the committee prior to final implementation of the change.
