Final Report: Flood Waters on the Douglas Subdivision in Kansas
On Friday, September 9th, 2016, the BNSF was experiencing operational impact due to track outage caused by heavy rainfall on the Douglas Subdivision in Winfield, Kansas. Winfield Kansas is approximately 24 miles east of Wellington, Kansas. This location impacts traffic to and from Chicago to Texas.
Heavy rainfall across Southeastern Kansas had caused the Walnut River to hit major flood stage, which resulted in segments of main track on the Arkansas City Subdivision and on the Douglas Subdivision to be removed from service. Main Track on the Arkansas City Subdivision returned to service at 09:00 p.m. Central Time on Monday September 12th, 2016. Main track on the Douglass Subdivision returned to service at 03:30 p.m. Central Time on Monday September 12th, 2016.
