2nd Update: Derailment near Superior, Montana

On September 4, 2013 at 6:30 a.m. CT, M-SPOLAU1-03 derailed 19 cars on Montana Rail Link (MRL) railroad near Superior, Montana. Superior, Montana is approximately 57 miles north of Missoula, Montana. The MRL moves BNSF trains between Spokane, Washington and Laurel, Montana and Billings, Montana.

MRL is running intermodal and merchandise trains via an alternate route on the MRL. Coal and grain trains have been rerouted on BNSF lines.

Estimated time of opening for affected MRL track is now 07:00 a.m. CT, September 6, 2013.

BNSF will continue to provide you with additional information as it becomes available. Customers may experience delays of 24 to 48 hours on shipments moving through this corridor.
