Updated Report: Derailment near Superior, Montana on MRL

On September 4, 2013 at 6:30 a.m. CT, M-SPOLAU1-03 derailed 19 cars on Montana Rail Link’s (MRL) 4th Subdivision near Superior, Montana. Superior, Montana is approximately 57 miles north of Missoula, Montana. The MRL moves BNSF trains between Spokane and Laurel and Billings, Montana.

MRL is routing intermodal and merchandise trains via their 10th Subdivision. Coal and grain trains are being rerouted on BNSF routes. Estimated time of opening of the 4th Subdivision’s main track is 1:00 a.m. CT, September 6, 2013.

BNSF will continue to provide you with additional information as it becomes available. Customers may experience delays of 24 to 48 hours on shipments moving through this corridor.
