Service Update for Friday, October 16, 2015
The operation generated another week of strong performance with good fluidity across the network. Velocity for cars and trains remains well above levels reported during the same weeks in 2013 and 2014, while the average number of trains holding is approximately 75 percent lower. In addition, we moved 210,361 units this past week making this the 20th time this year we have moved more than 200,000 units in a week.
Versus the same week in 2013: down by 72.9%
Total trains on the system was down by one percent from the prior week with an average of 1,565 trains on the system.
Locomotive velocity, measured in miles per day (MPD), was 295.1, which is up by less than one percent from the prior week's 293.7 MPD.
Locomotive dwell was up by more than two percent from the prior week at 18.2 hours.
Car velocity was up by nearly one percent at 231.6 MPD versus 230.0 MPD recorded the prior week.
Versus the same week in 2013: up by 17.4%
Train velocity was up by one percent from the prior week at 19.3 miles per hour.
Versus the same week in 2013: up by 16.3%
Total volume for the week was a robust 210,361 units moved in Week 40 (ending October 10).
Terminal dwell was down by more than three percent from the prior week at 23.7 hours.
