Midwest Rail Operations Update
A late winter, fast-moving storm will bring as much as 3 to 6 inches of snow and ice accumulations to the Plains tonight; it will move into the Ohio Valley and the Appalachians through Wednesday and will reach the Northeast by Wednesday evening. The states most impacted include Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri and Wisconsin.
To quickly mitigate any potential negative storm impacts, BNSF has taken pro-active measures with traffic routing and prepositioning of machinery and manpower. For select unit trains, BNSF is activating alternate gateways to avoid forecasted storm areas and mitigate potential traffic delays.
BNSF continues to modify its Transportation Service Plan (TSP) to route traffic away from congested locations, and to coordinate and re-route shipments with eastern carriers through alternate interchange gateways as conditions warrant.
As mentioned in previous updates, customers tracing their freight may notice nonstandard routings, locations and interchanges. Some traffic re-routing could lead to longer overall transit times several days longer than under normal conditions.
We recognize the continuing impact that current conditions are having on our customers and we are committed to restoring service levels as quickly as possible.
