Upcoming Changes for Domestic Intermodal Schedules

This notice is to advise you of upcoming changes to our Domestic Intermodal schedules. These changes are designed to create more consistency in the service we provide you, while also positioning BNSF to better support the growth of the domestic intermodal market through improved on-time performance.

Domestic Schedule Changes Effective Sept. 4, 2014

The first round of schedule changes will begin starting Sept. 4th to the following lanes:

Alliance, TX to Chicago, IL
Alliance, TX to Logistics Park Kansas City, KS
Alliance, TX to Stockton, CA
Chicago, IL to Alliance, TX
El Paso, TX to Chicago, IL
San Bernardino, CA to Chicago, IL

Moving forward, so that we allow you sufficient time to plan and coordinate, we will be announcing upcoming schedule changes at least 30 days prior to implementation.

Tower 55 Update

BNSF is investing a record $5 billion in capital to expand and improve our network — including $2.3 billion for maintenance and improvements to our infrastructure. In the coming days, we will enter the final phases of our Tower 55 construction project located near downtown, Fort Worth, Texas. It will be necessary for BNSF to implement a reroute plan for freight moving through this area and Intermodal customers will experience delays ranging from 1 to 3 days. Details regarding specific timing was referenced in our weekly service email.

Improving Reliability

We know that on-time performance is a key metric that you rely on to support your daily business operations. That is why the BNSF Intermodal Service Team is consistently analyzing current schedules, service impacts and ways in which we can improve reliability. We plan to add locomotives and adjust train sizes as we look to sustain on-time reliability through the upcoming peak months.

In closing, we are experiencing positive momentum as we carry out capital expenditures initiatives for 2014. Specifically, we are seeing some gains in improvements from the capacity we have added this year, and the major expansion planned for the remainder of the year should accelerate that improvement.
