New Weight Maximum For BNSF Intermodal Tank Containers Effective July 15, 2008
As part of BNSF’s continuous effort to improve service and increase efficiencies for customers, effective Tuesday, July 15, 2008, a new weight limit is established for BNSF Intermodal shipments using 20-foot tank containers:
· 58,000 pounds maximum when shipped in a BNSF-approved 20-foot intermodal tank container
This increase will give tank container customers more capacity when shipping by rail.
This weight is a maximum gross weight, which is the combined weight of cargo (lading) and the tare weight of equipment (tank container). Lading must not exceed the weight limit as stated on the manufacturer’s plate on the container.
Gross weight of the tank container must conform to all Federal, State and Local regulations for highway movement. If an overweight shipment is discovered or suspected, the shipper will be notified to retrieve the equipment.
If you have questions regarding these changes, please contact a BNSF Load and Ride Solutions Representative, who can provide information on BNSF-approved loading methods, at http://www.bnsf.com/tools/lars/index.html, or email LARS@bnsf.com, or contact your Marketing Representative at 888-428-2673.
