Consolidated Chassis Management Announces Chassis Pool Cooperative in Memphis Area
Consolidated Chassis Management LLC (CCM) announced today the formation of the Mid-South Consolidated Chassis Pool (MCCP), which began operating this morning at the BNSF Railway Company Intermodal Facility in the Memphis area. It is expected that additional Memphis area rail locations will be added in the future.
The MCCP is the third in an emerging national program establishing chassis pools at port and inland intermodal locations based on a cooperative pool model developed by the Ocean Carrier Equipment Management Association, Inc. (OCEMA). The MCCP is owned by Mid-South Consolidated Chassis Pool LLC, a subsidiary of CCM, and is managed by TRAC Lease, Inc. The MCCP is currently comprised of 12 participating ocean carriers with a fleet of over 8,000 chassis and is open to use by any international carrier or their agents using the Memphis area BNSF and Union Pacific Railroad terminals.
The MCCP is expected to produce significant benefits to the carriers, the terminals, and other users of the Memphis area terminals through more efficient equipment utilization and reduced congestion at the Memphis area’s major intermodal rail terminals. The MCCP expects over time, through optimization and the integration of best practices, to significantly reduce the number of chassis required to be stored at the terminals and nearby facilities.
