Updates to Intermodal Rules and Policies Guide for Hazardous and Liability Exceptions, Reels and Spools

Effective immediately, BNSF has modified Hazardous and Liability provisions, and added Reels and Spools as a new Restricted commodity in the BNSF Intermodal Rules and Policies Guide:

    Hazardous Information
Descriptive information is required on the shipping instructions for exceptions, equipment placards and markings, reportable quantities, special hazards and provisions. This is reflected in Item 36: Hazardous Shipments, Section 2.

BNSF will not be liable for loss or damage resulting from efforts to restore service interrupted as a result of an act of God. See Item 27: General Lading and Equipment Liability.

    Reels and Spools
Reels or Spools weighing 2,000 pounds or more require special loading consideration and are now classified as Restricted. As with any Restricted shipment (Item 35), a special price authority is required, along with proper declaration of the Actual STCC and Actual Commodity Description on the shipping instructions, as well as adherence to conditions outlined in Appendix E. See Appendix E: Prohibited and Restricted Shipments.
We encourage you and your shipping partners to review the BNSF Intermodal Rules and Policies Guide. We appreciate your support of a safe transportation network. For additional information, please contact your BNSF marketing representative.
