BNSF Automotive Service Advisory: Thursday Update

As of noon, Thursday, June 19, 2008, BNSF Railway continues to operate along our Transcon route, moving traffic on a single mainline through Fort Madison, IA. Overnight, water rose slightly in Fort Madison, however, trains continue to operate through the affected area.

We continue to move traffic in waves of eastbound then westbound trains across our Transcon mainline. Our operating plans are to move oldest freight first where possible. Delays of at least 48 hours on trains through this route are expected. This impact affects freight moving to/from Chicago, IL and Kansas City, KS to Southern and Northern California, Phoenix, AZ, and Alliance, TX, and other areas in the southwest, such as Albuquerque.

BNSF continues to handle our Chicago automotive interchange traffic both directions via the IHB.

Delays may occur into our BNSF Automotive Facility at Kansas City, KS.

The Chicago/Denver route (to and from) continues to be out of service. We are re-routing via our southern route, with expected delays of at least 48 hours.

We are still experiencing flooding at various locations on the Mississippi River between Burlington, IA, and Memphis, TN. This flooding impacts the markets of Memphis, TN, Birmingham, AL, St. Louis, MO, and Atlanta, GA, with delays of at least 24 to 36 hours.

Due to the flooding in these areas, even routes not directly impacted by flooding are experiencing equipment and locomotive imbalances. These imbalances are causing delays across the entire BNSF network. Expected delays are at least 48 hours, depending on the lane.
