Service Restored on Portion of Southern Transcon in Texas
Both main lines on a key portion of the Southern Transcon, our primary route between Los Angeles and Chicago, through northwest Texas returned to service at 9:45 p.m. CT following a 16-hour outage today. At approximately 5:30 a.m. CT this morning, a fire was reported at a grain elevator near Hereford, TX, which is located on our Hereford Subdivision that runs between Clovis, N.M. and Amarillo, TX. With the fire representing a possible explosion hazard, local officials immediately requested that BNSF stop all rail traffic from moving through the area until deemed safe to resume.
While service has now resumed, customers will continue to experience some residual delays until traffic flows have normalized through the area. Our operations teams have also re-routed some trains to minimize this disruption as much as possible.
