BNSF Intermodal 2013 Christmas and New Year’s Operating Plan

This year the Christmas and New Year’s holidays fall on Tuesday, December 24, Wednesday, December 25, Tuesday, December 31 and Wednesday, January 1.

BNSF will continue to operate intermodal trains over the upcoming holidays. However, due to lighter volumes of traffic and possible train consolidations, shipments originating on Tuesday, December 24, through Friday, January 3, may experience extended destination availabilities of approximately 24 to 48 hours.

Please contact your BNSF intermodal marketing or customer support representative if you anticipate critical service requirements over the holidays.

Delays may occur on interline traffic if connecting carriers have reduced operations for the holidays.

Please see the attached matrix for all hub hours during the holiday period.

For interactive tracing 365 days a year, please use BNSF’s Web Tracing tool by logging in with your user name and password and selecting Track Your Shipment. For service issues, please call 888-428-2673 and select option 4, then option 3.

Customer Support will maintain a limited staff on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve until 6 p.m. Normal coverage will resume at 6 a.m. on the Thursday following each holiday.

Shipping instructions must be submitted via EDI or by using the BNSF Shipping Instructions Web tool. Faxed shipping instructions are not accepted. Assistance with shipping instructions at BNSF Waybill Solutions is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Please call 888-428-2673 and select option 3, option 2 and option 3 for assistance.

The Storage department will maintain limited staffing on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day are U.S. holidays as outlined in the BNSF Intermodal Rules and Policies Guide. Below are storage rules applicable to holidays.

Storage free time is the amount of time allowed for a unit to be left at a BNSF facility once customers have been notified that the unit is available for pickup or delivery. If the holidays fall during the unit free time, they will not be included in the calculation of storage charges. If notification is made on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, the day of notification will roll to Thursday, December 26. If notification is made on New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day, the day of notification will roll to Thursday, January 2.

BNSF strongly encourages equipment pickup at facilities throughout the holiday period. Continual operations and pickups will alleviate congestion and avoid additional charges. If you have questions regarding storage, call 888-428-2673 and select option 3, option 3 and option 2.
