BNSF Intermodal Service Advisory: Wednesday Update

As of noon, Wednesday, June 18, 2008, BNSF Railway maintains fluidity and continues the work to restore our second mainline at Fort Madison, IA on our Transcon route.

Throughout the day, we will continue to move in waves of eastbound then westbound trains across our Transcon main line. At this point, we are still running on single track through this area. We are experiencing delays of at least 48 hours on trains through this route. This impact affects freight moving Chicago, IL to/from Southern and Northern California, Phoenix, AZ, and Alliance, TX, as well as interchange over Chicago, IL.

Freight moving to/from eastern gateways will continue to see delays as re-routes occur. Other than normal interchange gateways may be utilized in order to minimize the number of trains moving through the Chicago gateway.

The Chicago to/from Denver route continues to be out of service, which is expected to last now through the weekend. Re-routing of this freight through our southern route continues. Delays are expected to be at least 48 hours.

We are still experiencing flooding at various locations on the Mississippi river between Burlington, IA and Memphis, TN. While not an Intermodal route, Intermodal freight moving to/from the markets of Memphis, TN, Birmingham, AL, St. Louis, MO, and Atlanta, GA, will continue to experience delays of at least 24 to 36 hours with additional trains being re-routed across the Intermodal portion of the network.

Overall delay conditions across the BNSF network are expected to be at least 48 hours, depending on the lane.

We will continue to provide you with additional information as it becomes available.
