Update Report: Derailment near Blanding, Illinois
As stated in the Service Advisory issued July 28, 2011, coal train C SXMCSW0 19 derailed near Blanding, Illinois on the Aurora Subdivision at 12:03 a.m. CT on July 28, 2011, which blocked both main tracks. This location is approximately 20 miles north of Savanna, Illinois. The Aurora Sub runs between Aurora, Illinois and North Lacrosse, Wisconsin.
The outage is a result of washouts caused by severe weather. Impact to expedited intermodal traffic is expected to be approximately an additional 24-36 hours. Impact to all other services is estimated at up to an additional 72 hours as customers experience extensive delays on shipments moving through this corridor.
Our current estimate is that both main tracks will be returned to service on Monday, August 1 at 1700 hours. Reroutes are being established in order to minimize impact to our customers. BNSF will continue to provide you with additional information as it becomes available.
