BNSF 2006 Christmas and New Year’s Holiday Operating Plan
This year the Christmas and New Year’s holidays fall on Sunday, December 24 and Monday, December 25, Sunday, December 31 and Monday, January 1, 2007.
Intermodal trains as identified on the attached Christmas and New Year’s schedules will continue to operate over the holiday. Look for the words "Holiday Impact" to see the effects of the holiday on BNSF train service. "Holiday Impact" indicates that a particular cut-off will not be available for the day indicated. At the top of each origin, the dates in December and January are noted. Please note that anticipated impact to the schedules has been identified; however, additional adjustments to the attached plan may occur.
Please contact your BNSF Intermodal Marketing or Customer Support Representative if you anticipate critical service requirements over the holiday.
Delays may occur on interline traffic if connecting carriers have reduced operations for the holiday.

Storage and Detention
The Storage and Detention Department will maintain limited staffing for 24 hours on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
Christmas and New Year’s are U.S. holidays as outlined in the BNSF Intermodal Rules and Policies Guide and the BNSF Equipment Interchange Agreement. Below are storage and detention rules applicable to holidays.
Storage free time is the amount of time allowed for a vehicle to be left at a BNSF facility once notification has been given that the vehicle is available for pickup or delivery. If the Christmas and New Year’s holidays fall during the vehicle free time, the holiday will not be included in the calculation of storage charges. If notification is made on either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, the day of notification will roll to Tuesday, December 26. If notification is made on either New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day, the day of notification will roll to Tuesday, January 2.
Detention free time is the amount of time allowed for a vehicle to remain at origin or destination for loading or unloading. The Christmas and New Year’s holidays are not considered to be free days once the vehicle has been removed from a BNSF facility.
Please arrange for pickup of loads at the ramps as soon as possible after the holiday to avoid congestion and additional charges. If you have questions regarding storage, call our toll-free number, 888-428-2673, options 3, 3, 2.
