Improving Service Performance in the Pacific Northwest

BNSF is making steady progress on strengthening performance in the Pacific Northwest while addressing ongoing service challenges, particularly congestion at area terminals and facilities. Overall car velocity in our Northwest Division has increased by more than one-third from the lowest year-to-date levels reported in early February. While still underperforming versus the levels reported from the previous April, our aggressive efforts to deploy additional resources and take actions, such as modifying some service plans, have been key to driving productivity improvements. We also continue to work closely with impacted customers on transportation solutions that may contribute to faster transit times and reduced dwell.

In our South Region, traffic flows have returned to normal on our Southern Transcon through the Texas Panhandle following the service outage on Monday in Hereford, Texas. As we reported, both main lines on our Hereford Subdivision, which runs between Clovis, N.M. and Amarillo, TX, were shut down for approximately 16 hours due to an adjacent grain elevator fire that posed a safety risk to train operations through the area.

We are currently monitoring the threat for multiple rounds of severe storms today across the southern Plains, which may cause some train delays in any affected areas. Flash flood watches are in effect for much of northeastern Oklahoma, including Tulsa, as well as southern portions of Kansas and Missouri through tonight as several inches of rain is expected. Strong thunderstorms, with the potential for high winds and hail, are also possible across north Texas tonight and into the lower Mississippi River Valley, including the Memphis area, on Saturday. Our crews are monitoring the conditions closely and will respond quickly to any service disruptions.
