BNSF LTL 2009 Christmas and New Year’s Operating Plan

This year, the Christmas and New Year’s holidays fall on Thursday, December 24, Friday, December 25, Thursday, December 31, 2009, and Friday, January 1, 2010.

Delays may occur on interline traffic if connecting carriers have reduced operations for the holiday.

For interactive tracing, 365 days per year, please use BNSF’s Web Tracing at by logging in with your username and password, then selecting the “Equipment Tracing” section. For service issues, please call 1-888-428-2673, options 4, 3.

Customer Support will maintain a limited staff on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve until 6:00 p.m. Normal coverage will resume at 6:00 a.m. on the Saturday following each holiday.

The Storage Department will maintain limited staffing for 24 hours on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day are U.S. holidays, as outlined in the BNSF Intermodal Rules and Policies Guide and the BNSF Equipment Interchange Agreement. Below are storage rules applicable to holidays.

Storage free time is the amount of time allowed for a unit to be left at a BNSF facility once notification has been given that the unit is available for pickup or delivery. If the holidays fall during the unit free time, they will not be included in the calculation of storage charges. If notification is made on either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, the day of notification will roll to Saturday, December 26. If notification is made on either New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day, the day of notification will roll to Saturday, January 2.
