BNSF 2006 Intermodal Thanksgiving Operating Plan

    Holiday Observance
    This year the Thanksgiving Holiday will be observed on Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24. Below is a summary of the planned operational changes and other helpful information applicable to the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.

    Train Service
    BNSF will continue to operate Intermodal trains over the Thanksgiving holiday. However, due to lighter volumes of traffic and possible train consolidations, shipments originating on Thursday, November 23 through noon on Tuesday, November 28, may experience extended destination availabilities of between 24 and 48 hours.

    Please contact your BNSF Intermodal Marketing or Customer Support Representative if you anticipate critical service requirements over the holiday.

    Interline Traffic
    Delays may occur on interline traffic if connecting carriers have reduced operations for the holiday.

    Intermodal Facility Operations
    Please see the attached matrix for all hub hours during the holiday period.

    Customer Support
    We will have a limited staff available to take calls on Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24. Customer Support will provide normal weekend coverage on Saturday, November 25 and Sunday, November 26. For assistance, please call 888-428-2673, options 4, 3.

    Intermodal Equipment Ordering (IEO) System
    Reservations for rail-controlled equipment may be placed seven days per week by going to and registering for the intermodal equipment ordering system. If you have questions regarding equipment orders or the reservation process, please call 888-428-2673, options 4,

    Shipping Instructions
    Assistance with shipping instructions at the BNSF Revenue and Pre-Rate Waybilling Center is available 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Please call 1-888-428-2673, options 3, 2 for assistance.

    Storage and Detention
    The Storage and Detention Department will maintain limited staffing for 24 hours on Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24, and will be staffed as usual on the weekend.

    Thanksgiving is a U.S. holiday as outlined in the BNSF Intermodal Rules and Policies Guide and the BNSF Equipment Interchange Agreement. Below are storage and detention rules applicable to holidays.

    Storage free time is the amount of time allowed for a vehicle to be left at a BNSF facility once notification has been given that the vehicle is available for pickup or delivery. If the Thanksgiving holiday falls during the vehicle free time, the holiday will not be included in the calculation of storage charges. If notification is made on Thanksgiving Day or Friday, November 24, the day of notification will roll to Saturday, November 25.

    Detention free time is the amount of time allowed for a vehicle to remain at origin or destination for loading or unloading. The Thanksgiving holidays are not considered to be free days once the vehicle has been removed from a BNSF facility.

    NACS charges will be handled as outlined in the "Equipment Charges" section of the NACS Equipment Rules.
