Flood Update - A message to BNSF customers about the effects of Midwest flooding on BNSF
To our valued customers:
I am pleased to report that all BNSF main line trackage affected by flooding is now open for service. Trackage between Burlington, Iowa, and West Quincy, Mo., was restored to service late yesterday, and trains are now operating over that trackage.
Traffic is flowing as it did before the floods as trains are operating normally over the lines that had been flooded, and crews are completing the last of the cleanup work.
The effort to re-open the flooded trackage was massive. Trains, boats and trucks were pressed into service as the equivalent of almost 6,000 carloads of rock was dumped to raise track above the water and to restore washouts and other flood damage. Crews worked day and night, sometimes surrounded by water up to the tops of the crossties, to restore the railroad to meet your transportation needs.
On behalf of the hundreds of BNSF people who worked to restore service, I want to express my appreciation for your kind words of support during this historic flooding. And as always, thank you for your business.
