Changes to BNSF Railcar Equipment Request Tool Effective November 15, 2014

As part of our multi-phase project to improve BNSF’s Railcar Equipment Request (RER) Tool, we are implementing new features to more accurately capture customer railcar demand. Beginning November 15, features will be implemented that have been designed to ensure greater efficiency and improved order fulfillment.

Extension of Acceptance Window to 28 Days

BNSF is extending the current default seven-day active window to 28 days for orders placed through the RER Tool. By changing to a 28-day acceptance window, customers will be able to manage equipment requests more efficiently, reducing the need to re-submit requests for equipment on orders that have closed but for which demand still exists.

Weekly Ordering Limit

BNSF will introduce a maximum weekly ordering limit, based on loading activity over the previous 10 weeks, in order to assist customers in better managing their equipment requests. BNSF Equipment Management will work with customers to address situations requiring adjustments to the weekly limit threshold.

New Placement Plan Chart

In order to provide better communication of railcar demand, a new Placement Plan Chart will give customers more insight into fulfillment of their orders. This new chart will show customers how equipment requests are filled during a given week and displays the amount of any unfilled demand that exists in relation to the original want date.
