A message to customers: Extreme Winter Weather on Montana Division
To our valued customers,
The effects of extreme winter weather in the Montana Division continue to hamper train operations on our north lines. Over the past 48 hours, significant snowfall and high winds have resulted in 10- to 20-foot snow drifts, fouling tracks at multiple locations.
Our operating team has worked hard to clear trackage for safe movement of trains through the impacted areas. The main line is currently in service, but operating conditions remain difficult.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning to remain in effect through noon MST on Tuesday, March 1, 2011. The forecast calls for more snowfalls of 12-18 inches in the mountains (up to two feet possible on peaks) and 6-12 inches on the plains, accompanied by 35-45 mph winds with 70 mph gusts.
As always, we will continue to update customers through Service Advisories. The latest information can be found on our Service Advisory page.
