Maintenance Project to Affect Minneapolis-Chicago Traffic

Some Customers Will Experience Delays Due to Track Work

In our continuous effort to strengthen our network, BNSF will be undertaking significant track maintenance work affecting traffic through the Aurora and St. Croix Junction subdivisions. Starting September 8th, this 12-week project will necessitate the re-routing of up to 10 trains per day around the primary line between Minneapolis and Chicago. BNSF will mobilize more than 250 employees to install 105,000 cross ties and more than 17 miles of new rail in this corridor.

BNSF has already begun utilizing alternative routes to reduce the total train volume along this main artery. Customers with shipments that remain on this route can expect delays up to 24 hours, while re-routed trains may experience delays of up to 48 hours. Our system teams are constantly evaluating all available options to mitigate these potential delays as much as possible.

While we regret the inconvenience that the project may cause, this important work is necessary to support velocity improvements and traffic capacity along this route. As part of our $5 billion capital plan for 2014, this project is one of many along the Northern Corridor that will provide faster, more reliable service in the years to come.

We thank you for your patience as we complete this significant capital project. If you have questions, please contact BNSF Customer Support at 1-888-428-2673 (select option 4, then option 3).

As always, thank you for your business and for the opportunity to serve as your transportation service provider.
