UPDATE: Service Restored on Hi Line Subdivision; Delays in Pacific Northwest

At 4:00 p.m. CST, BNSF re-started train operations on our Hi Line Subdivision between Shelby and Whitefish, Montana after an avalanche blocked both main tracks yesterday morning. Crews worked throughout the day to clear nearly two feet of snow and debris that had covered our lines. This short video below highlights the situation confronted this week and the hard work by our employees and contractors to safely restore service following multiple avalanches.



Additional maintenance windows are scheduled this weekend to repair damaged slide fences. Customers may continue to experience delays on shipments designated to move through this busy corridor until operations have fully normalized.

In the Pacific Northwest, we are experiencing some delays due to mudslides and flooding resulting from heavy rain received this week. Our Gateway Subdivision, which runs between Klamath Falls, Ore. and Keddie, Calif., is currently out of service with water over the rail reported in multiple locations. Additional equipment has been moved to the area and crews are assessing track conditions.



There is currently no estimated time for when service will be restored through this corridor. We have implemented procedures, including the re-routing of some trains, to minimize this disruption as much as possible. Several slides also briefly halted operations on our Seattle and Scenic Subdivisions during the past 24 hours.
