04/02/2015 Service Update for Thursday, April 2, 2015 The operation generated another week of steady velocity performance and good fluidity across the network. For the third consecutive week, train velocity has increased, total trains holding has declined, and total volume again surpassed the 200,000 unit level. With the return to more normal operations at the West Coast ports, total volume moved by BNSF in recent weeks represents the highest weekly average levels recorded for March since 2006.
Versus the same week in 2013: better by 28.6% Total trains on the system was down 2.6 percent from the prior week with an average of 1,707 trains on the system. Locomotive velocity, measured in miles per day (MPD), was 278.4, which is essentially unchanged from the prior week’s 278.6 MPD. Locomotive dwell declined slightly more than two percent from the prior week at 17.2 hours. Car velocity was up slightly at 215.0 MPD versus 214.2 MPD recorded the prior week.
Versus the same week in 2013: better by 3.5% Train velocity improved 2.3 percent from the prior week at 17.7 miles per hour.
Versus the same week in 2013: down 2.2% Total volume exceeded 200,000 units for the third consecutive week with a robust 204,091 units moved in Week 12 (ending March 28). Terminal dwell increased slightly to 24.3 hours versus 24.1 hours the prior week.
