Service Update for Friday, June 27

Service Performance Update
This week, we made good progress in decreasing the amount of
trains holding on our network, which is a key indicator of congestion and is a count of trains not running due to a lack of critical resource. For the week ending June 24, the total number of trains holding was down 7.5 percent compared to the prior week and 33 percent lower than our baseline week in early February. The improvement in trains holding is noteworthy because for the past two weeks we have been operating more trains on our network than during our baseline week in early February. We had nearly 1,900 trains, on average, operating on our network each of the past two weeks, which is 100 more trains operating on our network than were operating during our baseline week.

Our system wide
terminal dwell statistic held steady this week and continues to be down nearly 12 percent, or four hours, from our baseline week in early February.

Regionally, our results for the week compared to our baseline week were somewhat mixed. Train speed, measured in miles per day, varied by region but system
velocity, measured in miles per day, was up nearly 3 percent week-over-week and compared to our baseline, respectively.

  • In the Northern region, terminal dwell is down 22.9 percent from the baseline.
  • Along our Central corridor, terminal dwell is down 10.3 percent from the baseline.
  • In the South region, terminal dwell is down 13.6 percent from the baseline.

Periodic Weather Disruptions
As we reported last week, this time of year typically brings with it rain and high winds caused by spring storms. Our meteorologists continue to monitor weather events all across our network and have indicated potential flooding conditions exist in a few areas. As we become aware of potential disruptions, we will proactively alert customers who may be impacted and will work to minimize the service impact.
