BNSF Los Angeles Intermodal Facility New In-Gate To Open Beginning Friday, April 27, 2007
To improve traffic flow and throughput at the Los Angeles Intermodal Facility, BNSF will open a new in-gate to support and enhance its already successful ground-stacking operation in Lot 5, effective Friday, April 27, at 6:00 a.m. The new Lot 5 in-gate is located on Sheila Street directly east of the 710 Freeway overpass.
The Lot 5 in-gate opening will take place in two phases:
Beginning Friday, April 27, 2007, ground-stack international intermodal containers with a Memphis, Tenn., destination will be accepted at the new Lot 5 in-gate only. At that time, these containers will no longer be accepted at the existing Sheila Street in-gate. Ground-stack international intermodal containers with any other destinations will continue to use the existing Sheila Street in-gate until May 11, 2007.
Beginning Friday, May 11, 2007, ground-stack international intermodal containers with Houston, Texas, St. Louis, Mo., or Birmingham, Ala., destinations will be accepted at the new Lot 5 in-gate only. At that time, international intermodal containers for these four destinations will no longer be accepted at the existing Sheila Street in-gate.
The six new lanes at the Lot 5 in-gate are in addition to the 11 lanes at the existing Sheila Street in-gate and the three lanes at the Chassis in-gate. Lot 5 lanes will be open 24 hours, 7 days a week. The Lot 5 in-gate also includes a new bobtail entrance for improved customer convenience.
The new Lot 5 in-gate will help reduce driver turn time and traffic along Sheila Street.
