New Checkpoint Processes Beginning Today at Memphis

Beginning today, Monday, June 15, 2009, BNSF has implemented a new in-gate and out-gate checkpoint process at the Memphis, TN Intermodal Facility. This process will improve gate throughput and speed up driver time into and out of the facility.

New Process Overview
The Memphis Facility has been equipped with Optical Character Recognition (OCR), a technology that uses video cameras to automatically identify container, trailer and chassis prefixes and numbers. The video cameras also create images of the container, trailer and chassis to record the equipment’s condition at interchange to or from the driver.

What is the new process at the Gate System Kiosk?
Driver enters their Driver’s License/Identification Number into the kiosk
Driver will be required to provide a fingerprint scan to validate their identity (biometrics)
Kiosk requests remaining information to complete the transaction

Registration Requirements
We appreciate that virtually all of our local customers have already registered. If drivers have not registered, registration can be completed onsite at the Driver Assistance Building at the Memphis Intermodal Facility. Drivers who have registered at another one of BNSF’s Intermodal facilities will not need to re-register at this facility.

Additional Information
All other normal requirements for entry will remain the same. EDI billing must be in place before loads and empties will be accepted. Bobtail entry and exit will follow the same process and requirements for driver identification.
