New Checkpoint Processes at Cicero, IL Beginning June 1, 2011
Beginning Wednesday, June 1, 2011, BNSF will implement a new in-gate and out-gate checkpoint process at the Cicero, IL Intermodal Facility. This process is currently in place at other BNSF Chicago facilities and improves gate throughput and speeds up driver time into and out of the facility.
New Process Overview
The Cicero facility has been equipped with Optical Character Recognition (OCR), a technology that uses video cameras to automatically identify container, trailer and chassis prefixes and numbers. The video cameras also create images of the container, trailer and chassis to record the equipment’s condition at interchange to or from the driver.
What is the new process at the Gate System Kiosk?
· Driver enters their Driver’s License/Identification Number into the kiosk
· Driver will be required to provide a fingerprint scan to validate their identity (biometrics)
· Kiosk requests remaining information to complete the transaction
Drivers will need to register ahead of time per the instructions below.
In addition, a gate change will take place. At Ogden Avenue, drivers will exit the facility from the rear rows of Lot E as we transition to a combined in-gate and out-gate facility. The Ceco (26th Street) gate locations remain the same.
We appreciate that virtually all of our local customers have already registered. If drivers have not registered, registration can now be completed onsite at the Driver Assistance Building (DAB) at the Cicero Intermodal Facility from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The DAB is located to the right of the Ogden Avenue ingate. Drivers who have registered at another one of BNSF’s Intermodal facilities will not need to re-register at this facility.
All other normal requirements for entry will remain the same. EDI billing must be in place before loads and empties will be accepted. Bobtail entry and exit will follow the same process and requirements for driver identification. See the attached flyer and map for more information.
