Pacific Northwest Marine Terminal Update
Regrettably, the marine terminals at Tacoma and Seattle have again communicated that terminal labor remains well under full utilization, causing congestion at those terminals to intensify.
Until resolved, this situation will require BNSF to modify its transportation service plan and normal service to and from the Pacific Northwest ports. BNSF will continue to operate trains enroute with plans to position them nearby to ensure timely availability once full production levels resume.
As advised November 5, 2014, we will exercise caution in originating additional traffic destined to the Pacific Northwest ports to ensure that capacity and resources are most effectively deployed for customers across our network.
The following gate restrictions on originating shipments for Tacoma will remain in place until further notice: Logistics Park Chicago (LPC), Cicero and St. Paul. We will continue to monitor these and other inland locations, adjusting as necessary.
Traffic received in interchange continues to flow normally, however, this traffic may be limited in the event the terminal situation is not improved.
In this fluid environment, we will continue working with our customers and terminal operators to keep resources and freight moving without delay, advising as conditions change.
We look forward to quick resolution by those involved so that BNSF can resume its normal operations to serve its customers.
