UPDATE: Midwest Flooding Recovery Efforts

The record flooding that has significantly impacted rail service through parts of the Midwest since mid-March is subsiding. Water levels of rivers at most locations in the region are no longer in major or moderate flood stage. Thanks to the hard work by our engineering teams and contractors, the Napier Subdivision, running approximately 80 miles between Pacific Junction, Iowa and Napier, Missouri, is expected to reopen tomorrow.

As we have reported, the Napier Subdivision, which is adjacent to the Missouri River, was the most severely affected by the flooding. Extensive restoration efforts have been ongoing throughout much of the past four months as crews have addressed dozens of washouts, repaired several miles of track, and constructed a new 3,000-foot causeway near Bartlett, Iowa to support our main line.

The remaining flood-related embargoes affecting destinations along the Napier Subdivision will be canceled once service is restored. While the entire River Subdivision, including all locations south of St. Louis along the Mississippi River, returned to service last weekend, some speed restrictions remain in place as water continues to recede. With no flood-related outages impacting operations, we expect to generate improved performance as crew and equipment resources are more effectively matched with train flows throughout the network.
