Significant Ice Storm to Impact Illinois & Iowa Tonight
BNSF operating teams are monitoring a major ice event expected later today and tonight across northwest Illinois, including the Chicago metro area, and portions of southeastern Iowa. Ice storm warnings are in effect beginning at 6pm CT tonight until 6am CT tomorrow with a half an inch of ice or more possible in some locations. Any significant ice accumulation may cause disruptions to operations as well as power outages.
Effective immediately, restrictions on traffic destined to Chicago area hubs implemented during the recent extreme cold have been lifted. Most other gate restrictions have also been removed, however, restrictions on traffic originating at the Willow Springs and Cicero hubs remain in effect. Please contact your sales representative for additional details.
Customers are encouraged to prioritize pick up of units that have been unloaded. Prompt pick-up will help improve traffic flows, reduce lot congestion and make room for processing inbound at these facilities. Drivers operating in and out of intermodal facilities should download and use the RailPASS mobile application to receive real-time updates and instructions to enhance the productivity of their visit.
Weather conditions will improve during the day on Wednesday as temperatures rise above freezing, however, another brief period of freezing rain is possible in some areas Wednesday night.
